Applications for the 2024 WE Empower UN SDG Challenge are now open!

Spearheaded by the UN Secretary-General, President of the World Bank, and the Council of Women World Leaders at the UN General Assembly in 2018, this groundbreaking competition celebrates women social entrepreneurs who are driving progress towards the UN SDGs and inspiring communities worldwide to shape the future we envision by 2030.

This unique opportunity acknowledges the innovative efforts of women social entrepreneurs and offers Awardees capacity-building training sessions and access to a vast global network to propel their enterprises forward. By showcasing the invaluable contributions of women leaders to the SDGs, this program aims to address the world’s most pressing challenges.

In 2024, WE Empower Challenge Awardees will take part in events surrounding the 79th UN General Assembly and engage with esteemed business experts from across the globe.

Co-convened by ASU Julie Ann Wrigley Global Futures Laboratory and Vital Voices Global Partnership, the WE Empower Challenge sets forth the following eligibility requirements:

  • Self-identification as a woman entrepreneur.
  • Leadership role within your entity.
  • Operation of your business or organization for a minimum of three years by August 1, 2024.
  • Employment of at least three full-time employees or equivalents.
  • Generation of a minimum annual revenue of $75,000 USD. Nonprofit organizations may include donations, grants, and fundraising proceeds in revenue.
  • Professional proficiency in English.
  • Age of at least 21 years by August 1, 2024.
  • Availability to travel to New York, NY, and participate in all events from September 22 to September 29, 2024. Virtual participation from August to December 2024 may also be required.

Selection criteria for successful Awardees include participation in tailored trainings during UN Global Goals/Climate Week from September 22 to 27, 2024, alongside engagement in high-profile events with UN Officials.
