Apply Now: WIPO Global Awards 2026 for Innovative & Creative Startups and SMEs Worldwide

Applications are open for the WIPO Global Awards 2026, a global recognition programme celebrating startups and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that harness intellectual property (IP) to drive innovation, commercial growth, and societal impact. The programme is organised by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) — the United Nations agency dedicated to innovation and creativity.

Why You Should Apply

The WIPO Global Awards provide a unique platform for global visibility, strategic support, and growth acceleration for innovative ventures using IP as a strategic asset. Winners and finalists benefit from networking with international partners, recognition within the WIPO-UN ecosystem, and an Awards Ceremony in Geneva, Switzerland, with travel expenses typically covered for participants.

This is a rare chance for startups and SMEs to showcase IP-driven innovation on a global stage, build credibility, and connect with investors, corporates, and ecosystem partners.

Who Can Apply (Eligibility)

Startups and SMEs from all 194 WIPO Member States are eligible. Your business must:

✔ Be a registered business entity.
✔ Have maximum 300 employees and annual revenue ≤ USD 15 million.
✔ Offer an innovative product or service connected to IP.
✔ For startups: Have filed at least one IP application.
✔ For SMEs: Hold at least one registered IP right.
✔ Demonstrate early-market activity (startups) or commercial traction (SMEs).

Applications are free of charge and open across all industry sectors.

Awards & Recognition

In 2026, the Global Awards will recognise a total of 11 winners:

  • 10 Company Awards (five for startups and five for SMEs) across sectors like health, environment, ICT, agrifood, and creative industries.
  • 1 Thematic Award for an SME in the sports sector, reflecting the theme of World IP Day 2026.
  • 2 Special Mentions:
    • Best Woman Entrepreneur
    • Best Youth Entrepreneur (under 35)

Program Benefits

Winning or becoming a finalist offers multiple strategic benefits:

🌍 Global Recognition & Visibility

Exposure at the WIPO Awards Ceremony in Geneva in front of business leaders, policymakers, and innovation stakeholders from ~194 countries.

🎓 Tailored Mentorship & Support

A six-month customised mentoring programme focusing on IP commercialisation, business strategy, and scaling opportunities.

🤝 Networking & Ecosystem Access

Connections to investors, corporates, accelerators, institutions, and support services within the global innovation ecosystem.
