To become an NFL cheerleader, you must have a high school diploma or equivalent. 

Some teams may require you to have a college degree as well. 

There are also specific physical requirements that you must meet to be eligible to try out for a team. 

These requirements vary by team but usually include being between 18 and 26 years old, being able to dance, and having a gymnastics background.

Training & Experience

To become a cheerleader, you’ll need to experience cheering and dancing. 

You’ll also need to be in good physical shape and have a pleasant personality.

There is no one specific way to become an NFL cheerleader. Some women start cheering in high school or college, while others dance their way into the profession.

The first step to becoming an NFL cheerleader is attending open tryouts. 

These are typically held in the spring, but some teams also have them in the fall.

 You’ll be asked to perform a short dance routine during open tryouts and show off your cheering skills. 

If you impress the judges, you’ll be invited to attend a callback audition, where you’ll learn a more complicated dance routine.

NFL Cheerleader Salary

The average salary for an NFL cheerleader is $150 per game. Most squads have 10-15 members, so a maximum of $2,250 per squad per game. 

There are typically four preseason games, four regular season games, and two playoff games. 

So the maximum amount an NFL cheerleader can make in a season is $5,700.

The average NFL career lasts less than four years. So, while you might not be able to be an NFL cheerleader forever, you can certainly enjoy the experience for as long as it lasts.
