Texas Law School Admission Test

To become a bar member, you are expected to graduate from an American Bar Association Law School.

The first step here is passing the test, this test doesn’t last a day and it is only available to be written only 4 times a year all over the world.  The Test is divided into 5 sections, two of which are based on logical reasoning while others are; reading comprehension, analytical reasoning, writing, and experimental.

Your Test score will be sent via email after 3 weeks as well as sent to the Law school you applied for. Then the highest get admitted.

Attend Law School

After passing the test, proceed to apply to an American Bar Association accredited law school. Get your recommendation letter, transcripts, etc. ready and you will be registered online to any law school of your choice with a fee attached.

During your stay in Law school, you are expected to take the following courses:

Substantive law, Legal analysis/reasoning, Legal research, Problem-solving, Oral communication, Writing in a legal context, History, goal, structure, values, ICT, etc. Internship, externship, pro bono work, etc. are included to gain a little experience before the real experience.

For students who would like to branch into other subsets of law other than focusing on being a lawyer, you are expected to graduate with a Juris Doctor degree to become a bar member.

Texas State Bar Exam

You must be at least 18 years old with a J.D Degree from a credited ABA law school, a citizen or resident alien of the U.S before you can apply for the Texas State Bar Exam. This takes 3 days and is divided into 4:

  • Procedure/Evidence Exam,
  • Multistate Performance Test,
  • Multistate Bar Exam,
  • Texas Essay Exam.

Preparation is important because various questions are asked from;

  • Business associations,
  • Guardianships and trusts,
  • Family law,
  • Wills and administration,
  • Uniform Commercial Code,
  • Real property (oil and gas),
  • Consumer rights (including insurance and DTPA), 
  • Texas civil procedure, and evidence,
  • Federal and Texas criminal procedure and evidence.

The Multistate Performance Tests questions include; Writing memoranda, briefs, letters, etc. While the Multistate Bar Exam covers: Constitutional law, Criminal law, Contracts, tort, Evidence, Real property, etc.

Licensing and Acceptance to the Bar

Your scores will be sent via postal mail, with the swearing-in date, place, and time if you pass. The swearing-in ceremony qualifies you as a Texas Bar Member.

What Next?

The next step is to proceed and plan where you plan to work as a starter of Texas law. You could start on your own or join any firm. However, to become a Truck Accident Lawyer in Dallas, you need to get your legal specialty certification.
