The Navy Warrior Challenge (NWC) is the first step toward becoming a U.S. Navy SEAL, which can be both challenging and rewarding in equal measures.

While there are no guarantees, those who do well enough at NWC may be selected to attend the more intensive Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL (BUD/S) Training course upon graduation from high school.

Here’s what you need to know to become a SEAL by 2025.

What Does a Navy Seal Do?

Navy SEALs are the maritime special operations force of the United States Navy.

They conduct direct action and special reconnaissance missions, often in hostile environments.

Becoming a Navy SEAL is no easy feat; it requires mental and physical strength, discipline, and determination.

If you think you have what it takes to become a Navy SEAL, here’s what you need to do.

First, you must meet the basic eligibility requirements. You must be a U.S. citizen between 17 and 28, have a high school diploma or equivalent, and be in excellent physical condition.

Once you have met these basic requirements, the next step is to contact your local recruiter.

They will then take your application and test scores, run them through a computerized process called Job Classification Testing (JCT), and assign you an ASVAB sub-score which ranges from 1-99 based on how well you score on certain sections of the ASVAB test.

The higher your sub-score, the more likely you will qualify for service as a Navy SEAL candidate.

How to Become a Navy SEAL

Below outlined are the steps to become a navy seal.

Earn a Diploma and a College Degree

To become a Navy SEAL, you must first earn a high school diploma or equivalent.

You will then need to attend college and earn a degree. While attending college, you will need to maintain good grades and participate in physical activities.

After graduation, you will need to complete Officer Candidate School.

Once you have completed these steps, you will be eligible to apply for the Navy SEAL program.

Prepare Yourself Early

Navy SEALs are the elite of the elite when it comes to the military. They go through some of the most intense training to become members of this exclusive group.

If you’re considering becoming a Navy SEAL, you must start preparing yourself.

  1. Get in shape. You’ll need to be in excellent physical condition to be considered for training.
Start working out and eating healthy now, so you’re in peak form when it’s time to apply.
  2. Learn to swim. This is an essential skill for any would-be Navy SEAL. If you don’t know how to swim, start taking lessons now.
  3. Study up on your history and current events.

Score High on the ASVAB & C-SORT

The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) is the first step to becoming a Navy SEAL.

You must score high on the ASVAB to even be considered for the C-SORT or Combat Screening Test.

The C-SORT is an eight-hour physical and mental challenge that puts potential candidates through grueling tasks.

If you can complete the C-SORT, you will be one step closer to becoming a Navy SEAL.

Pass the PST

Another vital step in becoming a Navy SEAL is passing the Physical Screening Test (PST).

The PST consists of a 500-meter swim, pushups, sit-ups, and a 1.5-mile run, all within specified time limits.

You must score at least an 80% in each event to continue to the next stage of training.

The next stage is BUD/S (Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL) training (eleven sentences):

BUD/S is the six-month-long basic training that all Navy SEALs must go through. The training is divided into three phases:

Phase One lasts for the first four weeks and focuses on physical conditioning. You will be pushed to your limits with intense workouts and runs.

Running miles upon miles until you are too tired to move, then doing it again.

Swim drills where you might swim two or more miles without coming up for air.

Pushup drills where you do one pushup every minute, whether you want to or not.

Sit-up drills where you might do five hundred straight sit-ups without stopping because someone just put weights on your back.

These exercises prepare us both physically and mentally for what lies ahead when we enter phase two of training – combat diving – which begins on day 15.

Begin Navy Career & Receive Your SEAL Contract

A career in the United States Navy can be both rewarding and challenging.

If you have what it takes to become a Navy SEAL, you will first need to enlist in the Navy and then complete basic training.

After that, you’ll be assigned to a SEAL team, where you’ll undergo specialized training.

Once you’ve completed the program, you’ll be eligible to receive your SEAL contract.
