Are you a young graduate passionate about international relations, diplomacy and global governance? The Delegation of the European Union to the African Union in Ethiopia is offering a paid traineeship opportunity within its Political, Press and Information (PPI) Section. This programme is designed for emerging professionals eager to gain hands-on experience in diplomacy, communications and policy engagement at the heart of EU-Africa relations.
This traineeship offers practical exposure to political analysis, media engagement and strategic communications, while contributing to the EU’s mission of representing its values and partnerships with the African Union.
Main Responsibilities
Successful trainees will:
- Support research and political analysis on regional and continental developments for reports, briefings and communication outputs.
- Assist with media and public relations activities including drafting newsletters, press releases, social media posts and maintaining media databases.
- Produce digital communication materials such as short videos, social media cards, factsheets, speeches and project highlights.
- Support coordination of the Team Europe Communication Community, including meeting organisation, minutes and follow-up tracking.
- Contribute to the planning and execution of events, preparing summaries and reports.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must:
- Currently reside in Ethiopia (due to local health and security conditions)
- Hold a Master’s degree in communication, journalism, political science, international relations, economics, law or related social sciences with proven communication experience
- Have no more than one year of professional work experience
- Be fluent in English
- Demonstrate strong interest in EU and AU politics, governance and development affairs
- Show excellent analytical, writing and communication skills
- Be skilled in audiovisual production and digital design tools (such as Canva)
Possess a proactive, reliable, and collaborative work attitude
