Cooperazione Internazionale (COOPI) is an Italian humanitarian non-governmental organization founded in Milan in 1965. COOPI aims to help the world’s poorest to improve their access to healthcare, food, and financial security, and to overcome their special vulnerability to wars, civil conflicts and natural disasters. For 50 years of long-term support and constant presence in the field, COOPI has been engaged in breaking the cycle of poverty and responding to specific emergencies in numerous sectors, including Food Security, Humanitarian Aid, Health, Socio-Economical Services, Water and Sanitation, Human Rights, Education and Training, Migrations and Sustainable Energy.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Data Management Assistant

Locations: Geidam and Nangere – Yobe
Employment Type: Full-time

Job Description
Under the direct supervision of the IT/SCOPE Officer, and in collaboration with the Field Coordinators, and other collaborators of the projects and of the Base, the data management assistant is responsible for cross checking all the projects’ activities data with the program team and ensure the accurate data is computerized and to properly file all the hard copies of the program data; and he/she will:

  • Work as part of the MEAL team, and will be responsible for managing projects’ data/information, including the following;
  • Creates a database of the beneficiaries and systematically feed into the system the registered information for each beneficiary, both on Excel and other donor’s standard tools (CPIMS) or standard software (Red Rose, COOPI Data base system,…);
  • Backs up all electronic files and data base;
  • Generates periodic reports (i.e. 5W and Sitrep);
  • Exercises extreme precaution and confidentiality when handling the personal data of the beneficiaries;
  • Advises on best practices for managing data and system maintenance as per required standard;
  • Collaborates with the rest of the team to ensure the data-entry on-time on-quality taking into consideration that the registrations should be always up to date in soft-copy;
  • Trains colleagues and stakeholders about generic IT skills and data-entry activities;
  • Development and management of data collection forms in KoBo (translation English, Hausa, other local languages
  • Responsible data management according to ethical data protection guidelines, including data confidentiality and password locked storage of data
  • Regular communication between the field team, MEAL Officer and IT/SCOPE Officer, including progress and problems of the data management (translation English, Hausa, other local languages)
  • Performs any other duties as assigned by his/her supervisors in connection to the project.

Profile of the Candidate (Education, Training, Competences, Skills)
Minimum Requirements:

  • Degree/Diploma in Economics, Mathematics and Statistics, Computer Science or Engineering, Rural Development, Development Studies or related academic disciplines, with previous experience working in developmental and emergency projects
  • University degree/HND/OND in any of the following disciplines: Statistics, Economics, Computer science and technology, Information Technology, Mathematics or related field.
  • Ability to write reports.
  • Able to work outside of regular working hours as required, including evenings and weekends if required.
  • A good experience in supervision is required.
  • Experience with survey methodologies, nutrition assessment and relevant data analysis
  • Previous experience working with an INGO or a Development organization.
  • At least 1 year of experience in connection with project management in the food security and / or livelihood sector, and preferably in a non-governmental organization of humanitarian and international character.
  • Previous experience in food distribution supervisory field is preferable.

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of the local language (Hausa and Kanuri).
  • Strong level of autonomy to provide independent follow through on processing issues and concerns
  • Excellent planning, organizational and time management skills.
  • Proficient in data collection and handling bulk registers of beneficiaries.
  • Willing and able to be based and travel regularly within remote areas, where services are limited.
