About the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP)

Young Champions of the Earth, the flagship youth engagement initiative of the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), annually recognizes ambitious young individuals worldwide with outstanding ideas to protect and restore the environment. In 2024, the program will select one champion from each global region, offering mentorship, capacity-building workshops, UN community access, publicity, and US$20,000 in seed funding.

Eligibility:

  • Applicants must be aged between 18 and 30 by December 31, 2024.
  • Each applicant must possess at least six months of prior experience working on a significant idea to protect or restore the environment.

Benefits:

  • Mentorship, capacity-building workshops, and access to a UN community of experts.
  • Introduction to dignitaries at the Young Champions of the Earth Award ceremony.
  • Publicity and recognition through interviews and global media.
  • US$20,000 in seed-funding.

Application Process:

  • Applicants will be required to share their journeys through videos and blogs on the program’s website for up to one year.
  • Applications close on April 5, 2024, at 23:59 EAT (Nairobi, Kenya).
