  Has a new position opened due to growth opportunities?  Has someone been fired if so why?  Is someone completely fulfilling the role and if so does the recruiter know why this is happening?  The answers to these questions will give you a better understanding of the business opportunity aspects.

·         How long has the position been opened?

  Has the position been opened for a few days, weeks, months, or a year?  The longer the position is open, the more difficult it is to get a bid.  An open position that has been available for a year is usually a big red flag.  The company is likely to be unrealistic in its expectations.  They might be looking for the ideal filter that costs the least money and can walk on water.

·         Who is the ideal candidate for this role?

  Do you want support with the interview process?  Ask the recruiter to describe the ideal candidate for the company.  Sure, you can only point to the job posting, but the recruiter will likely have more information.  Take lots of notes and ask follow-up questions.  You will be able to use this information to determine if this role is right for you – and even shape your answers to subsequent interview questions (as long as you are honest).
