The U.S. Department of State and IREX is pleased to announce the Mandela Washington Fellowship Program 2021/2026 for academic, professional, and regional experts to read and score the 2026 applications.
About Mandela Washington Fellowship
The Fellowship is the flagship program of the United State Government’s Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI). The fellowship has over the years brought several young leaders from every country in Sub-Saharan Africa to the United States for academic and leadership training.
Who is Eligible to apply for Mandela Washington Fellowship 2021
To be considered for the Fellowship, interested candidates are to meet the following requirements:
- Applicants must be academics and/or professionals with expertise in one or more of the Fellowship’s thematic areas (business, civic engagement, or public management).
- Must possess experience in Africa, or experience working on Sub-Saharan African issues.
- Applicants who are U.S. Government employees and Fellowship Alumni are eligible to apply.
- Must demonstrate excellent academic and leadership abilities.
