Announcing the eagerly awaited second edition of the Kofi Annan Award for Innovation in Africa! Building on the success of the inaugural edition, this award is dedicated to identifying and supporting innovative solutions that play a pivotal role in enhancing food security and fortifying food systems resilience across the African continent. The Kofi Annan Foundation is actively seeking cutting-edge solutions from all corners of Africa that contribute to Sustainable Development Goal 2 – Zero Hunger, with a robust emphasis on achieving food security and advancing nutrition.

Key Highlights:

Focus Areas:

  • Inclusion of marginalized groups in food security.
  • Enhanced nutrition for women.
  • Circular solutions and reduction of post-harvest losses.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Your venture must be a for-profit legal entity incorporated for at least two years at the time of application.
  • The solution should be rooted in at least one African country.
  • The applicant must have an existing presence in the country of implementation.
  • The innovation must address one or more priority topics.
  • The innovation must target a market of more than 1 million people.
  • The solution should be at least at the Minimum Viable Product (MVP) stage.
  • A committed founding team with at least three full-time employees is required.

Benefits:

  • Acceleration Bootcamp: Nine promising teams will participate in a fully virtual WFP Innovation Bootcamp. Expert mentors will provide valuable guidance to refine and develop innovative solutions.
  • Funding opportunities: Eligibility for equity-free funding, with the potential to receive financial support of up to EUR 250,000 per innovation (total of three awards).
  • Sprint program: The three selected ventures will be part of a 12-month acceleration program providing mentorship, a global network, and resources to expedite their growth and impact.
  • Network of innovators: All nine ventures will have the chance to leverage a robust network of businesses, investors, and mentors, enhancing their potential for long-term success and sustainability.
