The U.S. Mission to Nigeria comprises of the Embassy in Abuja, FCT, and the Consulate General in Lagos. U.S. Consulate General Lagos is the Mission’s representative to the Nigerian people in the southern region.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Duties

  • Incumbent supervises the telecommunication engineering office for Radio, Telephone, Television, Residence Internet and Switchboard Operations.
  • Plans, Designs, Implements, and Manages telecommunication services and projects for Consulate and tenant agencies. Serves as liaison with local telecommunications and internet service providers and government regulatory agencies on behalf of Consulate and as Contract Officer Representative (COR) for the telecommunication engineering office.
  • Receives direct supervision from the Information Management Specialist, Information Program Officer and Information System Officer for all accountable unclassified radios, telephones, non-enterprise mobile phones and other IPC tools and equipment. Incumbent serves as an incidental operator of official vehicles.

Qualifications and Evaluations
Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Telecommunication Engineering or Computer Engineering is required.
  • NYSC Certificate or Exemption document is required.

Experience:

  •  Five (5) years of professional experience in the field of telecommunications with two of those years in a supervisory role is required.

Job Knowledge:

  • Must have detailed knowledge of Standard Operating Procedures for Telephone and Radio.
  • In-depth knowledge and experience in implementing Radio Frequency Systems (RFS), Nortel, Avaya and Cisco VoIP Systems, Local Area Networks (LAN), Wide Area Networks (WAN), MPLS (Multi-Layer Switching Protocol) Network, VPN (Virtual Private Network), Programming of voice and data network elements, Video Multicasting, Satellite TV, Telecommunications Project Management, Public Private Partnership, Workplace Health & Safety is required.
  • Must have advanced knowledge of Routing, Switching and Troubleshooting of LAN, WAN and MPLS VPN. Must have knowledge of Network Security and Telecommunications Project Management.

Language:

  • Fluent in speaking/reading/writing of English is required.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to develop and maintain high level contacts with local government and private regulatory agencies, vendors and Contractor is required.
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision is required. Must have a valid, current class B driver license for a car.
  • Must have had a valid driver’s license for a minimum of five (5) years.
  • Must posses excellent technical skills to troubleshoot, diagnose and resolve telecommunications systems and networks problems.
  • Numerical skills for data analysis is also required. Good knowledge of MS Office Suite, phone programming software and graphical interface to troubleshoot problems is required.
  •  Ability to lift up to 25kg is required.

Agency Benefits:

  • The pay plan is assigned at the time of the conditional offer letter by the HR Office.
