It is a non-profit organization with a mandate of making the lives of vulnerable people better, those affected by disaster or crisis. GPON is presently operating in the Northeastern regional part of Nigeria where we have reached over 100,000 lives with relief materials, child protection services. GBV mitigation services, livelihood skill-building, health services, and Education support services.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Resident Localization Consultant

Location: Borno
Position Reports to: Localization Coordinator

Job Overview / Summary

  • Under the direct supervision of the Localization Coordinate, the Resident Localization Consultant will oversee the GPON localization initiatives across the BAY states.

Major Responsibilities
Coordination and Management:

  • Support the Localization Coordinator in developing a timeline and work plan, including setting targets for milestones and accountability measures.
  • Support the Localization Coordinator in conducting research, potentially including reviewing relevant documentation, conducting surveys or interview with relevant sector leads, and other key stakeholder to inform a report on the capacity development needs of L/NNGOs and CBOs in northeast Nigeria.
  • Support the Localization Coordinator in conducting a desk review and gather best capacity development practices from related projects and utilize them to benefit localization initiative
  • Support the Localization Coordinator to coordinate between sectors leads and other key stakeholders.
  • Support the CSOs Coordination Group where possible.

Training and Capacity Development:

  • Support the Localization Coordinator to compile capacity development training resources, curricula, and information (informed by identified challenges) from selected L/NNGOs and CBOs with a particular focus on expertise in non-profit management and organizational development (Human Resource Management, Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability & Learning (MEAL), 3. Supply Chains Management 4. Project Management, 5. Proposal Development, 6. Humanitarian Programmes Planning & Management, 7. Finance Management, 8. Child Safeguarding, 9. Accountability to Affected Population, 10. PSEA & Gender Mainstreaming in Humanitarian Action)
  • Support the Localization Coordinator to draft, finalize, and agree upon criteria for participant selection, minimum standards for the capacity development, clear expectations of mentors.
  • Support the Localization Coordinator in assessing the specific needs of participating organisations beyond those captured in initial surveys and identification of resources to address them through training and mentorship consultations.
  • Support the Localization Coordinator to locate, assess, and oversee trainers, and other necessary consultants.
  • Coordinate collaborative efforts to improve capacity development training and associated curriculum.
  • Support the Localization Coordinator in ensuring training material and content is centralized within an identified online space (that is also available offline) that serves as a central resource portal for potential future community of practitioners.
  • Agree on mentoring plans between mentor and mentee and follow up on progress
  • Conduct follow-up assessments (e.g., surveys, FGD, interviews, etc.) on partners’ goals and expectations and explore continued support.
  • Support the Localization Coordinator to create guidelines and SOPs for capacity development for sector to use with their partners.
  • Draft reports on the outcomes and recommendations for future localization efforts.
  • Share regular status updates with the Localization Coordinator, and other key stakeholders.
  • Other tasks as management deems necessary.

Technical expertise, skills and knowledge
Experience:

  • Master’s Degree in International Relations, Political Science, Development, or another relevant field preferred
  • 2+ years working on capacity development, or training and curriculum development, or with L/ NGOs.
  • Experience of working in complex humanitarian situations is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Hausa and Kanuri is a major plus.
  • Ability to facilitate training.

  • Availability: 05.12.2022
  • Salary and conditions: In accordance with GPON Terms of Employment. The income will be subject to statutory deductions as per applicable Nigerian laws.
