Catholic Relief Services is the official international humanitarian agency of the Catholic community in the United States. CRS works tosave, protect, and transformlives in need in more than 100 countries, without regard to race, religion or nationality. CRS’ relief and development work is accomplished through programs of emergency response, HIV, health, agriculture, education, microfinance and peacebuilding.

CRS has been supporting program activities in Nigeria for over 30 years and has long-standing relationships with Church and non-Church partners and communities throughout the country. The Nigeria country program has a diverse funding base with projects in health, nutrition, food security and agricultural livelihoods, microfinance (SILC), emergency response and peacebuilding. CRS/Nigeria currently has over 210 national and 8 international staff. With an FY22 annual budget of over USD $100 million, coupled with strong donor interest in supporting CRS’ work in the country, significant growth opportunities exist for the CP. The CP has been supporting emergency activities in the NE states since 2015 with offices in Damaturu, Maiduguri and Yola.

About THRIVE

  • The Transitioning Households to Recovery from Vulnerability in Jere (THRIVE) project is a two-year emergency and recovery project funded by BHA/USAID.
  • Over the course of the project,CRS with Mercy Corps (MC), Women in the New Nigeria (WINN), Herwa Community Development Initiative (HCDI), Salient Humanitarian Organization (SHO) and Justice Development Peace Committee (JDPC) willprovidecontext-specific humanitarian assistance with the goal of initiating early recoveryin targeted areasand will operationalize an area-based approach to advance participants from lifesaving assistance to life-building support.
  • The THRIVE consortium will reach an estimated 374,664 unique participants across 10 sectors.

Job Summary

  • You will manage and provide technical oversight ofthe development and implementation of THRIVE Health and Protection programming,ensuring effective systems and processes are in place that support high-quality programmingadvancing Catholic Relief Services’ (CRS) work in serving the poor and vulnerable.
  • Your management skills and knowledge will ensure that the CP delivers high-quality programming and continuously works towards improving the impact of its Nutrition and Protectionprogramming.

Roles and Key Responsibilities

  • Provide management, guidance, and technical oversight of allNutrition and Protectionactivities on THRIVE throughout the project cycle to ensure project design, start-up, implementation and close-out arein line withCRS quality principles and standards, donor guidelines, and industry best practices.
  • Effectively manage talent forNutrition and Protectionprogramming and supervise. Manage team dynamics and staff well-being. Provide coaching, strategically tailor individual development plans, and complete performance management for direct reports.
  • Lead the development of program learning – identify opportunities for learning, research and publications in the area ofNutrition and Protectionprogramming and implementation of MEAL policy. Facilitate the dissemination of promising practices and lessons learned to contribute to the agency knowledge management agenda. Ensure integration of innovations and best practices.
  • Oversee technical assistance and capacity strengthening activities inNutrition and Protectionprogramming for staff and partner organizations to enhance program quality and impact.
  • Oversee the strengthening of partnerships relevant toNutrition and Protectionprogramming and the appropriate application of partnership concepts, tools and approaches.
  • Ensure timely and appropriate project expenditures in line with financial plans and efficient use and stewardship of project material sources.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Health Manager, Senior Nutrition Officers

Key Working Relationships:

  • Internal- DCOP, HOO, Security Officer, Admin and Finance staff Maiduguri and Abuja, other PMs.
  • External– THRIVE Partner staff, UN, coordination meetings.

Basic Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Public Health, Nutrition or relevant related field. Additional experience may substitute for some education.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in relevant field-based project management experience required, with preferably at least 2-3 years working in the area ofNutrition and Protection programming.
  • Experience in managing moderately complex projects preferably with an international NGO.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Clinical background – medicine (MD) or nursing (RN)
  • Experience working with RedRose and CAT system is a plus.
  • Good experience inproject grants management, including project design, preferably forgrants from multiple public donors, including USAID.
  • Demonstrated ability to write high quality technical proposals.
  • Experience engaging with partner organizations
  • MEAL skills and experience required.
  • Staff management experience and abilities that are conducive to a learning environment.
  • Experience using MS Windows and MS Office packages (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), Web Conferencing Applications, information management systems.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with ability to make sound judgment and decisions and offer innovative solutions
  • Strong relations management abilities. Ability to relate to people at all levels internally and externally.Strategic in how you approach each relationship.
  • Good presentation and facilitation skills
  • Proactive, resourceful, solutions-oriented and results-oriented.

Required Languages:

  • Fluency in English required

Travel:

  • Must be willing and able to travel up to 20%.
