How to Tell Your Coach You are Missing Practice

Regardless of how much you love playing sports, you need a couple of days off to let it go and enjoy it with your family and friends. Unfortunately, sometimes, you can’t tell your coach why you’re missing practice.

You need to devise a good excuse, and even if your coach is friendly, he or she will not help you get away with it. Here is how to tell your coach you are missing practice.

Your coach will not be able to trust you if he suspects that you are not sincere when you tell him why you’re missing practice.

Having a good excuse is very important, as it can help him make an emotional and sympathetic response to you. Besides being honest, try to avoid drama and make your excuses as sincere as possible.

How to Tell Your Coach You are Missing Practice

The following are different ways to tell your coach you are missing practice:

1. Had a doctor’s appointment

Most athletes value their health and fitness. If you tell your coach that you need to see a doctor, he will be more than willing to let you go if you have a valid reason.

Physical and health are the top priorities of all coaches when it comes to training.

2. Had a sprain

If you suffer from a hand or leg injury, it will not do you or your teammates any good to walk on the field without taking physical action.

An athlete’s good excuse should include strains and injuries, which are the normal parts of an athlete’s life. This can be used whenever you want to take a break.

3. You Lost your Pet

If your coach is a pet lover, this can be an excellent way of telling them you’ll be missing practice.

Pets dying is the worst thing that can happen to a person who is passionate about them. In addition to getting sympathy, this excuse can also be used to get leave.

4. Food Poisoning

You have to tell them about this, and they will want nothing further. Having a bowel disorder is one of the most common conditions that can affect people.

You can’t attend practice if your bowels are not working properly. This excuse will allow you to get away from any follow-up questions.

5. Allergic reaction

Some people can go nuts after eating peanut products. A peanut allergy is a serious illness that can lead to fatal consequences. Even minor exposure to peanut dust can trigger an allergic reaction.

You have to tell your coach that you are allergic to peanuts and were rushed to the hospital after accidentally eating a peanut.

6. Illness

This is the most common excuse, as it works every time. If you get sick, your coach would not want you to attend practice, as you could spread the contagious illness to your teammates.

If you have flu, cough, or fever, then you are fine to go.

7. Death in the family

This topic is sensitive, and nobody likes to talk about it. Stating the death of a loved one is an easy way to get sympathy and leave quickly.

You can tell your coach that you have to be there, and they will understand your request.

8. You had an accident

An unfortunate accident can happen on your way to practice, and nobody would expect you to walk to the facility after that. Using an accident as an excuse is valid and legitimate, as it only has minimal suspicion.

For instance, saying that you got into an accident because your bike was speeding is a legitimate excuse.

9. Wedding Invite

Everyone knows how stressful and time-consuming a wedding can be. Regardless of the occasion, you must be there for your family’s important day.

Attending a sibling’s wedding can grant you leave and good wishes from your coach.

10. Mental health

Today, many people are fighting for better mental health. It’s important that you take time out to improve your well-being and treat yourself properly.

Asking for leave is also justified. Just state the reason why you want to take time out.
