Cyber Systems Operations installs supports and maintains server operating systems or other computer systems and software applications related to its operation, while ensuring that current defensive mechanisms are in place.
Cyber Systems Operations responds to outages and network operations interruptions. Manages server-based network systems, distributed applications, network storage, messages, and application monitoring required to provide, support, operate, and integrate systems and applications connected to the electronic network in protection and in deployed locations. Core competencies include: server operating systems, database management, web technologies, systems-related project management, and electronic systems supervision. Supports identification, exploration and remediation of vulnerabilities while enhancing capabilities within cyber environments to achieve desired impacts.
As a specialist in electronic systems operations, it is your job to help provide cyber intelligence to the business owner. In this role, you can monitor an emerging threat, help protect a network, or implement new security measures. In any scenario, you are working with a computer for extended periods. This job title often refers to military positions, especially with the United States Air Force, rather than civilian roles that focus exclusively on protecting company assets. Civilian jobs often have titles such as Cybersecurity Specialist. Cyber systems operations professionals may also use electronic systems for offensive roles, such as launching attacks on military targets or gathering information before, during, and after scheduled attacks.

The basic qualifications to become a specialist in electronic systems operations depend on the employer. Military roles usually require a high school diploma or a bachelor’s degree, followed by basic military training and completion courses at the School of Military Technology.
