Grassroots Lifesaving Outreach (LESGO) is an impartial, neutral and independent Non-Governmental Organization whose mission exclusively established to promote life in underserved communities through empowering communities to know and protect lives including their environment towards ensuring safe habitation through participatory methodology. Established in Grassroots Lifesaving Outreach was established in 2010 but was incorporated in the year 2011 with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC). LESGO exists to partner with government and relevant agencies to promote and strengthen humanitarian law and a universal principle that seeks to honor the dignity of mankind with support and believe that Life is worth living and living well.

Job Overview / Summary

  • LESGO is seeking a committed and competent WASH Team Leader who will ensure the quality of the planning, implementation and follow up of all technical aspects of the WASH activities being implemented.
  • The WaSH Team Leader under the technical supervision of WaSH Coordinator as Matrix Manager is responsible for the day-to-day implementation and monitoring of LESGO WASH activities.
  • She/he will ensure project target objectives are met, build healthy relationships for effective coordination and partnerships, and provide direct leadership to the WASH team.

Job Responsibilities

  • Work towards the achievement of overall goals through effective supervision of WASH related activities and lateral relations and teamwork.
  • Planning, monitoring and supervision of field related WASH activities, to ensure the quality of implementation.
  • Work closely with the WASH Coordinator and M&E officer to monitor all project indicators to ensure target achievement.
  • Work closely with the field staff, to support the community mobilization efforts by liaising with all co-actors in the communities.
  • Ensure adequate knowledge of the project portfolios M&E plan as specified by the donor are disseminated to staff working closely with the M&E officer.
  • Ensure staff understand program priorities and promote buy-in from community
  • Liaise with other state actors to ensure coordination and smooth implementation
  • Ensure good coordination of community activities and service delivery at health facilities.
  • Build and maintain a high visibility profile for all LESGO projects and programs in the state among the relevant stakeholders.
  • Carry out monitoring and supportive supervisory visits to the various wards and settlements in the LGAs in which the project is implemented.
  • Collaborate with other staff and community volunteers to ensure all program participants are tracked and followed.
  • Engage with other partner in the state to craft program strategies using the annual and quarterly work plans, and quarterly reviews under the guidance of the WASH Coordinator.
  • Provide technical support to organization staff to ensure high-quality social mobilization and other in-between round activities conducted by the volunteers.
  • Support the volunteers to carry out community mobilization activities
  • Attend WASH Sector meetings
  • Attend to other duties as assigned by the Program Manager and or management.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Water Engineering, Architecture or hydraulics. Masters preferred.
  • Knowledge of leadership and management.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience from working as a WASH Officer/Engineer in a humanitarian context
  • Previous experience in managing teams onsite or management positions is an asset.
  • At least 3-5 years’ experience in WASH.
  • Knowledge of latrine construction/upgrading and its environmental effects.
  • Proven communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills with strong experience.
  • Working knowledge of English language
  • Computer skills. Able to work productively in periods of high stress and activity.
  • Maintains effective performance under pressure
  • Proven communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills with strong experience.
  • Good report-writing skills.
  • Technical WASH expertise
  • Manage time effectively, prioritizing tasks and able to work to deadlines.
  • Manage and supervise construction activities.
  • Previous Experience in designing/developing water networks.
  • Experience in design of sanitation systems.
  • Working knowledge of and experience with UN, OCHA or WHO projects will be an advantage.

  • Excellent written and oral communications skills in English, Hausa, and any other local language.

Travel:

  • The successful candidate will be willing to travel to field locations based on program needs.
