We increasingly find our work on malaria can be effectively integrated with other similar public health interventions for greater impact and therefore expanded our remit to include child health and neglected tropical disease interventions.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Supervisor – Lead Mothers Quantitative Study

Location: Kano
Timeline for activities: December, 2021
Total TA Days: 14-days

Purpose / Scope of the Assignment

  • The purpose of this terms of reference (ToR) is to engage two supervisors who will support the Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention (SMC) research team for quantitative data collection for the LM study.
  • There will be trainings on the study design, methodology and data collection tools as well as research ethics.
  • RAs will also be trained on Malaria Consortium COVID-19 safety measures during research conduct.
  • Data collectors and their supervisors will work with the SMC research team to conduct quantitative data collection for an estimated period of 5 days each for ‘before’ and ‘after’ surveys to address objective 5 of the LM study.

Job  Description

  • These study personnel will be primarily responsible for training and supervision of the data collectors.
  • The training will focus on overview of SMC, data collection protocol/methodology, data collection instrument, art of data collection, inter-personal communication, supervision skills, facilitation skills, the use of electronic platform and research ethics

Specific Tasks
The supervisors will be required to:

  • Attend and participate in a 2-day training of data collectors using adult learning approaches of facilitations (discussions, role plays, demonstrations, and simulations).
  • Provide supportive supervision for data collectors using appropriate supervision checklist.
  • Oversee data collection processes, including logistics, community entry and mobilization.
  • Write a report on the data collection process, outlining the best practices, the lessons learnt, challenges, achievements, and recommendations. Each supervisor will write reports for their supervision areas as assigned.

Deliverables for supervisors:
Each supervisor will be assigned 5 teams of quantitative data collectors (10 data collectors) to supervise during the data collection process. Each supervisor will provide:

  • Supervision schedules developed and submitted.
  • Process report for the data collection process for the teams assigned/supervised.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Must have a minimum of Bachelors Degree in Demography, Statistics, Public Health or other related disciplines with at least 5 years post-qualification experience
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in public health research and surveys.
  • Ability to demonstrate good facilitation skills
  • Demonstrable report writing skills
  • Availability for the whole of the period of the survey
  • Must not be a staff of Government at any level and in any Ministry.
