The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)’s timbuktoo Creatives Lab is empowering innovation in the Cultural and Creative Industries (CCIs). If you’re a creative entrepreneur looking to scale your business and take it to the next level, this accelerator program is your opportunity to thrive in 2025.

What is the UNDP timbuktoo Creatives Lab?

Implemented by the Craft and Design Institute (CDI), the timbuktoo Creatives Lab is a unique acceleration program designed to support 15 high-potential creative businesses. This program is part of the broader UNDP timbuktoo initiative, which focuses on fostering creative innovation and business growth.

Along with the soon-to-be-launched timbuktoo Creatives Hub in District Six, Cape Town (implemented by UVU Africa), this program aims to connect creatives and help them innovate, collaborate, and grow.

Eligibility Criteria:

Applicants from all regions in South Africa and all other African countries are welcome.

Businesses must be registered and operating within one of the above creative sectors.

Businesses must have been in operation for 2 to 5 years.

Annual turnover of R200,000 and above.

Women, youth, and marginalized groups (including black-owned businesses, individuals with disabilities, LGBTQ+, and entrepreneurs based in rural areas) are encouraged to apply.

Who Should Apply?

We are looking for ambitious creative entrepreneurs in the following sectors:

Audio-visual (Film, TV, Animation, etc.)

Design (Graphic, Fashion, Industrial, Architecture, Interior)

Music (Recording, Live Music, Instruments & Production, Festivals)

Multi-media (Digital Art, Augmented Reality, etc.)

Cultural & Natural Heritage Preservation Organizations

Program Format:

This part-time programme is designed to be flexible, catering to your business needs. An agreed number of hours will be required per month, ensuring that you can manage the program alongside your business operations.

Before applying, take advantage of the free masterclasses available to gain valuable insights into the creative sector and the program. These masterclasses are designed to inspire creativity and provide support in preparing for the Creatives Lab application.

Note: Attending the masterclasses is not mandatory to apply for the Creatives Lab.
