INFORMATION NOTE & GUIDE TO APPLICANTS

This application GUIDELINE has been developed to assist applicants in filling out the application form and should be read and understood before completing the application form or template.

Background of the Fund

The world continues to face ecological threats that if no actions are taken, will lead to a global environmental crisis. Environmental conservation calls for collective solutions that are integrated into day-to-day activities for sustainability.

There is a need for environmental conservation champions to mobilize their communities to act and contribute to solving the challenges experienced while enhancing their livelihoods and supporting access to education.

Young Environmentalist Innovation Challenge (YEIC) is an environmental innovation fund established by KCDF through the generous gift of Mackenzie Scott with the aim of developing action-oriented young people with strong values and commitment to the conservation of the environment. About the 2nd Series of the YEIC Call

The 1st Series of the Call awarded 5 youth-led organizations with a total of 23.9 million Shillings to implement environmental innovations around tree growing, waste management and agriculture.

This is the 2nd public call for applications to the KCDF YEIC fund. The award will be given to young people (15-35 years) and community-focused organizations registered or unregistered in any form that will present innovations that demonstrate passion and commitment to environmental conservation. This fund will catalyze young Kenyans into implementing innovations that advance technology and environmental responsibility. It seeks to support Innovative ideas and solutions that promote green and digital transformation adoption

Goal:

The goal of the Challenge is to enhance Technological Innovation for Sustainable Environmental Conservation among young people.

Objectives:

  1. To inculcate the spirit and practice of environmental awareness and conservation among children and Youngin learning institutions and out of school (the community)
  2. To promote environmental conservation practices and sustainable use of natural resources for communities led by young people.
  3. To strengthen the capacity of youth-led organizations to implement environmental innovations

Evaluation Criteria

  1. Articulation of the need being solved through green and digital: (How need was identified, what are the issues and challenges that the community is experiencing) (30 Marks)
  2. Potential of the idea to continue having impact into the future (25 Marks)
  3. Clarity on how and what you will measure to determine progress, achievements and impact expected while allowing room for learning (25 Marks)
  4. Budget will be directed towards the intended purpose, covers all aspects of your request (where there is a financial gap), and is within market rate ranges (20 Marks)

YEIC GRANT SIZE AND DURATION

Category 1: Young Environment Champions

  • Grant Amount: Up to 1,500,000 each
  • Eligibility: Individual young champions (Max Aged 35 years) making significant contributions to environmental conservation.

Category 2: Organizations

  • Grant Amount: Up to 5,000,000 each
  • Eligibility: Community Focused Youth-led Organizations registered in any form dedicated to environmental projects and sustainability initiatives.
