Call For Applications: Cultural & Artistic Responses to the Environmental Crisis (CAREC) Program 2024 (up to €10,000)

The Cultural & Artistic Responses to the Environmental Crisis (CAREC) is a year-long initiative aimed at fostering engaged community-based cultural practices, with a specific focus on climate justice, while recognizing the multifaceted dimensions of the environmental crisis.

This program serves as an interdisciplinary platform to support critical artistic endeavors, facilitate connections among engaged practitioners, encourage cross-disciplinary exchange, and prioritize non-hegemonic forms of knowledge to imagine alternative models of climate justice globally.

To facilitate collaboration and support individual artistic practices, the program integrates various forms of interaction, including workshops, guest talks, and peer-to-peer sessions. While most activities occur online due to the diverse geographic locations of participants, there are two in-person Lab Weeks during the program, serving as week-long mentoring intensives. Additionally, participants collaborate on a collective project in the form of a publication and web space.

The program requires an average time commitment of 10 hours per month, with fluctuations throughout the year. Proficiency in spoken English is essential for effective communication and mutual learning among participants.
